Glasgow Rangers miss out on making extra profit as Super Eagles star joins the Premier League

The Nigeria international will look to excel in the world’s most glamorous league after struggling over the past 12 months

Glasgow Rangers had a golden opportunity to rake in additional revenue from Calvin Bassey’s transfer to Fulham, but it slipped through their fingers, Soccernet.ng reports.

Back in 2020, Rangers acquired Bassey for a negligible sum, and last summer, they cashed in significantly, selling the Super Eagles star to Ajax Amsterdam for a staggering €23 million.

In a bid to secure future financial gains, Rangers astutely included a 10% sell-on clause in the deal, which would only be triggered if Ajax managed to sell Bassey at a profit.

However, Ajax’s recent decision to part ways with the talented player for €22.5 million indicated they made no profit from the deal. As a result, Rangers will not receive any additional remittance, as per Ibrox Noise.

Ajax, on the other hand, proved to be shrewder negotiators, safeguarding their own interests by incorporating a ten percent sell-on clause in Bassey’s contract with Fulham.

This clause guarantees them a share of any future transfer fee, irrespective of the price Fulham might eventually command.

Although Rangers can no longer claim any revenue from Bassey’s future transfers, Ajax stands to profit if Fulham ever decides to sell the defender.

Despite facing difficulties at Ajax last season, Bassey is expected to shine in the highly competitive English Premier League while donning the Fulham jersey.

His impressive debut appearance drew praise from his new manager, hinting at a promising future for the Super Eagles defender.

Last season, Fulham secured a respectable 10th-place finish in the English top flight, providing Bassey with a platform to showcase his talent at the highest level.
