Confirmed: Ex-Flying Eagles star Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi joins Serie A club Salernitana

Despite recent links to AC Milan, the former Flying Eagles star has now officially signed with Salernitana

Former Flying Eagles star, Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi, has officially joined Serie A club Salernitana from Slovenian side Celje, Soccernet.ng reports.

Earlier reports from Italy hinted at the young Nigerian talent’s impending move to the Italian top-tier club Salernitana.

According to the latest updates provided by Soccernet.ng, the 22-year-old Nigerian has successfully secured a transfer deal worth around €1.80 million with the Salerno-based club. The contract spans four years, with an option to extend for an additional year.

Ikwuemesi’s football journey commenced with Giant Brillars before he embarked on his European venture, making a move to Austrian football club Vorwärts Steyr in 2021.

The talented forward significantly impressed during his loan spell at Slovenian side NK Celje, where he notched up an impressive record of nine goals and five assists in the Slovenian top division.

Initial reports had linked the young talent to AC Milan, as suggested by Italian journalist Sacha Tavolieri. However, an interview with Giant Brillars FC’s secretary, Obi Michael, clarified that the Rossoneri had not approached the 21-year-old player.

As he moves forward in his career,  Ikwuemesi will continue to make his mark in Italy, donning the jersey of Salernitana. He joins the ranks of Nigerian football players like Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, and Samuel Chukwueze, who are already showcasing their skills in the Italian Serie A.
