Bassey joined Ajax last summer, and a deal that will see him move to the Premier League is reported to be close
Fulham and Ajax are reported to have agreed on a deal that will allow Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey, to move to England, Soccernet.ng reports
Bassey, who moved to the Dutch giants last year from Rangers, has been at the center of transfer speculations since the start of the window.
The 23-year-old talented defender has struggled to replicate his best form in the Netherlands, with Ajax failing to secure a Champions League spot last season for the first time in over a decade.
Bassey is keen to see out his contract with Ajax, as reported earlier this week, but he’s now open to leaving the club after Ajax informed him of their willingness to allow him to leave this summer.
Fulham were reported to have made an opening bid of more than £17m earlier this week for the Nigerian International, who has also attracted interest from Brighton and Hove Albion, with the North London club now reported to have reached a transfer fee of around £21m with Ajax for the 22-year-old on Saturday morning according to vi.nl.
The agreed fee is close to the same amount that Ajax paid to Rangers for Bassey last year. A resale percentage is also included in the deal, which will see Ajax still earn from Bassey in the future.
Now that there’s an agreement between the two clubs, it’s up to Bassey and his management to sort out the personal terms and conditions of the contract.
