Watford F.C. have renewed the contract of 18-year-old Hamzat Balogun, Soccernet.ng reports.

Watford F.C. on their official website, announced the renewal of the contracts of several youth players, and teenage prodigy, Hamzat Balogun’s contract was also renewed. The full-back signed a year-long deal, with the option to extend for an additional year.

The defender, although born in England, is eligible to play for Nigeria as well. He went through the youth ranks at Manchester United before joining The Hornets in 2021, and has featured in FA Youth Cup matches for the English side.

In an interview with Watford magazine a while back, Hamzat named Emmanuel Dennis who was then-Watford forward as his favourite Watford forward.

“I’m a big fan of Emmanuel Dennis, even though he doesn’t play in my position. He is an agile player, positive on the ball, and isn’t afraid to take people on. It’s good to have characters and players like that in the team.”

He also mentioned his love for the kit The Super Eagles donned at the Russia 2018 World-Cup, saying;

“I really like the Nigeria international kit from the 2018 World Cup. I was a big fan of the design and colourway.”

The youngster is yet to represent England or Nigeria at any level of football, and is currently focused on his development into being a pro at Watford.
