New Milan signee Chukwueze snubs Messi and Ronaldo to name ex-Chelsea, Madrid, Bayern Munich forward as ‘idol’

Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze has mentioned his love for Arjen Robben, calling the former Bayern man his idol.

Super Eagles winger, and new A.C. Milan signing, Samuel Chukwueze has snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi to mention former Netherlands international, Arjen Robben as his idol, Soccernet.ng reports.

The left-footed right winger, who just joined the Rossoneri from Villarreal on a deal worth €20m (potentially rising to €28m), mentioned how he spent a lot of time watching the former Bayern winger dazzle and get past defenders in style, with the popular cut-back and bend it into the top corner style.

It has always been popularly said about the former Real Madrid star whose quick feet made him unstoppable during his prime.

24-year-old Chukwueze also plays in a similar style to the former Netherlands talisman, as they’re both left-footed wingers and always like to cut in, with Chukwueze’s goal against Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu a recent experience of that. Speaking about his love for Robben on Milan TV, he said;

“I love to play on the right wing, it is very important. I watch Arjen Robben because he’s my idol. I watch his YouTube clips a lot because he’s a fantastic player. He cuts in, he crosses the ball, he shoots, he’s so fast, and he can dribble anyone he wants to. He’s a player I just love to watch.”

He also didn’t hold back on the love the Milan fans have shown him and how important it was in making him switch to the seven-time UEFA Champions League winners.

“I was a little bit nervous. On my social media, Milan fans sent me messages, telling me to come to the club. It was a good first impression that they’re amazing people. That’s what made me come here, I think the fans are amazing.”

The Super Eagles winger joins Milan on a five-year deal and will look to be an attacking force alongside Rafael Leao for the Italian giants.

  • I am glad you've made the switch. You've just moved up to a new challenge which I think will rub off positively on the Super Eagles.

  • Perfect choice for your position and style of play! I hope this guy learns from Roben! He turns turn back just because a defender jeered at him. He's critical in attack and open the scoring freedom and chance for His teammates!

    His football is not just about the dribbles and runs.... it's about how many defenders he takes out of the game play thereby reducing the opposition general attack and defense strength.

    He'll make them forget their game plan and run towards him.....then Thomas Muller will now be scoring as though He's too good!

    The beauty is that they do it as a team!
