London-born defender wants award-winning Nigerian star to snub Milan, Napoli, Frankfurt

English defender and captain of Union Saint-Gilloise, Christian Burgess, has expressed his desire for the club to try to retain the services of Nigerian forward Victor Boniface, Soccernet.ng reports.

Union SG have already bid farewell to Yorbe Vertessen (returning to PSV), Simon Adingra (back to Brighton), and Teddy Teuma (transferred to Stade Reims).

Although Boniface is currently still present with the Brussels community, the likelihood of his departure seems imminent.

Numerous clubs – reports say AC Milan, Napoli, and Eintracht Frankfurt are interested – have shown interest in the 22-year-old striker, with the potential for Union SG to secure a substantial transfer fee.

Having joined Union SG from Norwegian side Bodö/Glimt for a fee of €2 million, Boniface has proven his worth, amassing an impressive record of 22 goals and 12 assists in 55 appearances. The Super Eagles hopeful won the top scorer award in the Europa League last season.

However, Christian Burgess believes it would be in Boniface’s best interest to remain at the club for another season.

The English defender anticipates Union SG will continue to excel, particularly with a potential Europa League adventure on the horizon.

Burgess, emphasizing the significance of retaining Boniface, stated, “That would be a top transfer for Union,” as reported by La Dernière Heure via VoetbalBelgie.

Despite the ongoing transfer speculation, Boniface appears undeterred, displaying his prowess by netting Union SG’s solitary goal in a 1-1 draw against Monaco during a recent preseason match.
