Everton make play for Nigerian striker involved in 34 goals last term

The Toffees struggled in attack last season,  nearly costing them their Premier League status, and they are keen to remedy the anomaly

Everton Football Club have expressed their interest in signing Union Saint-Gilloise (USG) striker Victor Boniface, a player who made a significant impact last season, Soccernet.ng reports.

According to renowned journalist Sacha Tavolieri as per a post to his personal Twitter account, Everton have not made a formal offer yet, but the Toffees have made contact with Boniface’s representatives. The Nigerian striker is open to the idea of a transfer.

During the recently-concluded season, the 22-year-old Nigerian forward netted an impressive 22 goals and provided 12 assists across various competitions while playing for USG and his former club, Bodo/Glimt.

Tavolieri stated on Twitter, “We are not yet at the stage of formal negotiations but I understand Everton took initial information on the player’s side to glimpse the possibilities of a deal for Victor Boniface.”

He further emphasized that there is currently no concrete offer from Everton for the striker, despite his willingness to consider a move.

Everton narrowly escaped relegation last season, needing a crucial final-day victory over Bournemouth to secure their place in the Premier League.

The Toffees, aware of the need to bolster their attacking options, see Boniface as a potential solution.

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi played a crucial role in the team’s survival, and Everton hope that Boniface can provide similar contributions.

Boniface’s performance last season undoubtedly makes him an enticing prospect for Everton.

The young striker was the joint top scorer in the Europa League, netting an impressive six goals.

A couple of German Bundesliga clubs have also shown interest in his services, but the allure of playing in the Premier League could potentially sway him toward joining Everton.
