Belgian Champions break the bank to sign Mbappe-like attacker of Nigerian descent

The Belgian champions have been hot on the heels of the youngster, and they have finally gotten his signature

Belgian Jupiler League Champions Royal Antwerp have signed Nigeria-eligible attacker George Ilenikhena from Ligue 2 club Amiens, Soccernet reports.

Antwerp have been heavily linked with Ilenikhena in recent weeks as reported by Soccernet. They were the frontrunners to snap up the 16-year-old. According to the report, the club was willing to smash their transfer record to get his services.

Antwerp’s previous transfer record was €5.5million, which they paid to Independiente for Willian Pacho two summers ago.

However, the Belgian kings have now confirmed that they have signed Ilenikhena. They broke their transfer record and paid Amiens €6million to sign the attacker on a four-year deal.

Ilenikhena was born in Lagos, but his family moved to France when he was just a child. He is also a big fan of Mbappe and models his game after the France star.

The 16-year-old striker currently plays for the French youth teams, but he could still switch allegiance.

Following his move, he will become the second player of Nigerian descent in Antwerp’s first team, alongside Alhassan Yusuf.
