Transfer: Real Madrid are interested in Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen as backup for Karim Benzema

Victor Osimhen’s outstanding performance for Napoli has aroused the curiosity of top European teams

La Liga giants, Real Madrid, are reportedly interested in signing red-hot Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, as a backup for French striker, Karim Benzema, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian striker has been impressive for the Parthenopeans by notching 23 goals in 29 domestic league appearances in Napoli’s quest to win the Italian Serie A title.

However, this has aroused the curiosity of other elite European teams, who will now compete with Real Madrid, the 2021–22 UEFA Champions League champions, to recruit the striker.

The Super Eagles attacker has been heavily linked with both Manchester United, which has been on the hunt for the forward since Cristiano Ronaldo left in November, and Chelsea, who is considered to follow in the mould of his idol, Didier Drogba.

However, according to recent sources from Fichajes, the Nigerian striker has entered the book of the Vikings, who are hoping to lure him as a backup for Karim Benzema, who will ultimately take his position when he departs.

Although the president of Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has ruled out a move to sign the Nigerian star, the Italian billionaire may find Real Madrid’s offer to be alluring.

Osimhen (24), a young and uncommon complete striker, is someone the Whites will go all in for when the summer transfer market comes knocking. Benzema (35) is now in his peak, and any extra year may see him hanging up his boot.
