Serie A top scorer award: Spalletti pledges Napoli support for Osimhen

Napoli’s triumphant return to the winner’s circle against Fiorentina was punctuated by an impressive goal from Victor Osimhen, reinforcing his stature as one of Serie A’s most prominent African talents, Soccernet.ng reports.

Following the match, Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti expressed his unwavering belief in Osimhen’s capabilities and affirmed the club’s commitment to assisting the young striker in his pursuit of becoming the league’s top scorer.

Despite a missed penalty in the early stages of the second half, Osimhen was granted an opportunity to redeem himself when Napoli was awarded another penalty midway through the half.

Seizing the moment, Osimhen converted the spot-kick, etching his name into Serie A history as the highest-scoring African player in the league’s illustrious annals.

Spalletti commended Osimhen for his resilient personality, acknowledging the inherent challenges that a young player may encounter, including fluctuations in mood.

Undeterred, Osimhen showcased his courage by stepping up to take the penalty, a testament to his determination to clinch the coveted top-scorer title. Spalletti also lauded Osimhen’s penalty-taking abilities, highlighting his versatility and skill set.

“Osimhen has shown that he has a great personality; let’s not forget that he is young and can suffer from mood swings,” Spalletti said, as per Tutto Napoli.

“He had the courage to go and collect the second penalty. Yes, it was said in the dressing room because he has to win the top scorer. Apart from that, he also knows how to take penalties.”

Osimhen is in a race with Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez for the Serie A top scorer accolade.

The Super Eagles striker has 23 league goals, four more than the Argentine star.
Salernitana’s forward Boulaye Dia has 15 goals, followed by Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman and Spezia’s M’Bala Nzola, both on 13 goals.
