Osimhen usurps Weah at the top as Napoli celebrate Scudetto with win against Fiorentina

Osimhen scored in midweek to help Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years, and he put up another big performance against Fiorentina

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen became the highest-scoring African player in Serie A after his winning goal for Napoli in their 1-0 win against Fiorentina, Soccernet.ng reports.

Napoli won their first Scudetto in 33 years after their 1-1 draw at Udinese. Prolific Nigeria striker Osimhen scored the goal that won the Serie A. Asides from winning them the Serie A, the goal also broke Samuel Eto’o’s record of 21 goals in a single Serie A season.

Nonetheless, the Partenopeans were looking to take the party to Naples with the hope of a victory against Fiorentina to make it sweeter.

Victor Osimhen equaled Weah’s record of 46 goals in Serie A last time out, and he was looking to score one more to become the highest-scoring African in the league’s history.

In the 64th minute, Osimhen nearly scored again, as he struck a chip with only the goalkeeper left, but the ball only grazed the bar. Nonetheless, the Manchester United linked star was not to be denied on the day.
