After the Super Eagles narrowly avoided losing their qualification matches for the Africa Cup of Nations against Guinea-Bissau in the two games, Jose Peseiro marched to Belgium in the hopes of bolstering his team.
The 63-year-old was seen at the Maurice Dufrasne for RSC Charleroi’s match against Standard Liège as well as Gift Orban’s match for KAA Gent and West Ham, which finished 1-1 in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League quarterfinal matchup.
Although Orban received a call-up to the Nigerian U-23 national team, but the club declined the request on the grounds that he needed time to relax, and the invitation needed to be more timely.
As he travels to Europe to keep an eye on the Nigerian attacker, who has lately come under debate, the Portuguese manager continues to burn the candle at both ends to maintain his chance of winning the AFCON title.
It is accurate to state that the 2013 AFCON winners may include the young player in the squad for the next AFCON qualifying games, despite speculations in certain local media outlets that the Nigerian may have been put on a blacklist and prevented from being called up to play for the national team.
Peseiro, who announced on Twitter that he was visiting Orban’s home stadium, indicates that the Nigerian would soon get a call from the former Sporting CP manager. The goal scorer may have given up on being called up after being passed over for Salisu Yusuf’s team, but this move proves to be a godsend nevertheless.
However, Victor Boniface, an attacker for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, will be facing RFC Seraing tomorrow, and the Super Eagles’ head coach is anticipated to be there.
The current top scorer in the Europa League, who was recently lauded by Xabi Alonso, might be among the new players the Portuguese coach might bring in to strengthen the Super Eagles side.
This would therefore be a blessing for Boniface after he was snubbed by the NFF, who revealed that the Nigerian, who is firing on all cylinders in the Europa League, did not make the cut for the squad to face Guinea-Bissau.
Also, the gaffer attended the match between Standard Liege and Charleroi at Maurice Dufrasne Stadium. Still, Valentine Ozornwafor was an unused substitute, and his call-up is unlikely even if the Nigerian Senior Men’s team has to improve their defences.
However, there is a good chance that Orban, who has scored 14 goals in 13 league games for the Buffalos thus far, and Boniface, the current top scorer in the Europa League, will be on Peseiro’s list.
