Former Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi is convinced that Napoli’s Victor Osimhen deserves to be named Serie A’s best player this season, Soccernet.ng reports.
In an interview with TMW as per Tutto Atalanta, Onazi said that Osimhen has been exceptional in Serie A and the Champions League this season and deserves to be rewarded with the Most Valuable Player award.
Osimhen has scored 21 league goals, leading Napoli to the brink of a first Scudetto title in over three decades.
He also scored five goals as Napoli reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in history. As the leading scorer in Serie A, Onazi believes his compatriot has what it takes to win the best player award.
Onazi said, “He deserves the MVP award without a shadow of a doubt for what he has done in Serie A and also for what he has done this season in the Champions League. I have no doubts.”
Despite Nigeria having several attacking talents, Osimhen is the Super Eagles’ leading striker.
While Onazi feels that Osimhen is not yet Nigeria’s best-ever goalscorer, the former Trabzonspor midfielder believes the sky is the limit for the 24-year-old forward.
“Victor is still growing and will do even better,” Onazi added.
“In Nigeria, we have had strikers who wrote football history, but Osimhen is still starting, and I think for him, only the sky will be the limit.”
Napoli and Osimhen will win the Italian Serie A title this weekend if they beat Salernitana at the Diego Maradona Stadium and Lazio fail to beat Inter at the San Siro.

Osimhen is the best out and out striker to come out of Nigeria till date! Oke Isima, Rashidi Yekini, Richard Owubokiri, Obafemi Martin's, and Osaze Odemwingie, were all international class at their best. However, Osimhen is has been performing at world-class level this season. That's novel for a Nigerian player.
