The Nigerian international was among the most sought-after forwards in the French top flight during the winter transfer window before signing for OGCN
OGC Nice’s striker Terem Moffi will not be able to play against his former club FC Lorient on Sunday, March 19, due to an agreement between the two clubs, as per Saint-Brieuc.
Moffi joined Nice on a loan deal with an option to buy during the January transfer window. The deal includes a mandatory purchase option worth 30 million euros plus bonuses, and a contract that runs until 2027.
Despite having a few difficult matches with Nice, Moffi delivered an outstanding performance against Monaco last weekend, scoring twice and assisting the other to lift Les Aiglons to a stunning 3-0 win. On Friday, he also featured for 79 minutes as Nice managed a 1-1 draw with Auxerre.
However, the Nigerian striker will not be able to help Nice against his former club, Lorient, due to a common clause in loan agreements that restricts players from playing against their former team to prevent conflicts of interest and accusations of match-fixing.
It is unclear whether this was a condition set by FC Lorient when the loan deal was negotiated or if Nice voluntarily agreed to it.
Nevertheless, the absence of Moffi in the game could affect Nice’s chances of winning the match, as the striker has been a key player for the team.
Despite this setback, Nice will have to rely on other players to step up and fill the void left by Moffi’s absence.
Moffi has registered 14 goals – equalling his best tally – in the French elite division this term.
Overall, in his Ligue 1 career, he has played 92 matches, with 36 goals and seven assists.
