Injury update: Four things to note about Tolu Arokodare’s horrific ‘meniscus tear’ at KRC Genk

The Nigerian youngster switched from France to Belgium during the winter transfer window, and he is committed to the Smurfs for another four years

Tolu Arokodare could not have asked for a better start to life in Belgium when he scored on his debut as Genk powered to a 3-2 win over Gent last month.

However, Arokodare’s season took a sad turn when he sustained a hamstring injury in the opening 12 minutes of Genk’s 3-0 victory over Oostende last weekend.

According to HBVL, the Nigerian forward could be out of action for several weeks due to the injury.

That would not be good news for Genk after the club spent big on the 22-year-old striker as the ideal replacement for prolific compatriot Paul Onuachu, who departed for Southampton in January. Especially with Genk banking on the goals of Arokodare to power them to a first league title in four years.

Based on the latest injury update, here are five takeaways that can define the rest of Tolu’s season at Genk:

1. Tolu’s injury is a tear in the meniscus of his left knee that could keep him out of action for several weeks. This suggests that he may miss several games for Genk, which could impact his form and playing time once he returns to the field.

2. Tolu’s injury is a setback for him and the team as he was starting to find his feet at the club. This means that Genk will have to find a way to cope without him and find a replacement in the interim.

3. Tolu’s injury comes at a crucial stage in the season, with Genk currently challenging for the league title. This implies that his absence could impact the team’s performance and even affect their chances of winning the league.

4. Tolu’s injury highlights the importance of having a deep squad and having backup players who can step in when needed. This means that Genk may need to rely on other players to step up and fill the void left by Tolu’s injury.
