The IT guru becomes the fifth foreigner to own a club in Denmark
Nigerian IT billionaire Shola Akinlade has acquired a 55 percent stake in Danish second-division club Aarhus Fremad.
Shola has become a serial sports investor in recent years. The 38-year-old IT guru co-founded payment solution Paystack in 2016 alongside Ezra Olubi.
Paystack was later sold to Irish-American-owned software company Stripe in 2020 for $200million(₦108billion).
Shola then started Lagos football club Sporting Lagos in 2022. The club plays in the Nigeria National League.
However, he has not stopped investing in football, as stiften reports that he has bought a 55 percent majority stake in Danish club Aarhus Fremad.
The Danish club is expected to have a partnership with Sporting Lagos where the NNL side would be the launchpad for young Nigerian players to move to Europe.
Also, the deal would help Sporting Lagos build up some sporting principles and set up an academy
Following the successful deal, Shola Akinlade is now the fifth foreigner to own a club in Denmark.
