The Nigerian striker has been on a roll for weeks, and he just cannot stop
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has now scored 100 career goals after his beauty for Napoli in their 2-0 win at Sassuolo.
Napoli were looking to make it seven consecutive Serie A wins in a row when they traveled to the Mpei Stadium to take on Sassuolo.
Nigeria striker Osimhen had 99 career goals before the game, and he was looking to reach three figures against the Neroverdi.
Napoli started on top as expected. They bossed the possession and looked like the more dangerous side.
Osimhen put himself about, showing his physical strength. He put in a good shift in the attack and also helped out defensively.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia eventually took the initiative in the 12th minute, running at Sassuolo defenders and striking a well-placed shot that crept into the net to make it 1-0.
Sassuolo poured men forward to get an equalizer, but Napoli were saved by the crossbar and Sassuolo’s profligacy.
In the 22nd minute, Napoli got their cushion, and it was the powerful Osimhen who scored. He received a long pass from Rrahmani and bullied two defenders who were on him. The Sassuolo defenders were expecting him to pass the ball, but he decided to go for goal from an acute angle, and it paid off, as his shot went straight into the net.
Asides from his goal, Osimhen registered 33 touches, three successful dribbles, and three shots on target.
Both teams were able to score more, and Napoli ran out 2-0 winners. The victory ensures that they are 18 points above second-placed Inter Milan who have a game in hand.
Osimhen now has 18 league goals, and per Opta, he has become the first Napoli player to score in seven straight games since 1995.
