Nigerians abroad: Moffi’s masterclass mangled Monaco; Ighalo, Onyemaechi, Olayinka star in wins

Here is Soccernet.ng’s blow-by-blow account of the most notable performances of Nigerian footballers in Europe and beyond over the weekend.

French Ligue 1

Terem Moffi returned to goalscoring ways as the Super Eagles striker netted a brace and assisted the third to power OGC Nice to an impressive 3-0 win at Monaco.

It was Moffi’s first goals for the Eaglets since he joined them from FC Lorient in January.

At the Stade de la Beaujoire, Moses Simon was a second-half substitute in Nantes’ disappointing 1-0 home loss to Rennes.

Nigerian midfielder Bonke Innocent was an unused sub in Lorient’s 0-1 defeat to visiting Auxerre.

Italian Serie A

Ademola Lookman’s evening ended in disappointment as he was caged in Atalanta’s 2- 0 defeat away to AC Milan.

It got a bit better for compatriot Isaac Success in Udine as the former Watford man bagged an assist in Udinese’s thrilling 2-2 draw at home to Spezia.

Other Leagues

Calvin Bassey came off the bench to help Ajax secure a hard-fought 2-1 win away to Vitesse in the Eredivisie.

In the Czech Liga, Young Nigerian centre-back Igoh Ogbu stood solid in defence while Peter Olayinka scored both goals as Slavia Prague soared to a 2-0 triumph over Slovacko.

Ibrahim Said’s creative juice was at his optimum level as he created two assists to help Viborg run out 3-0 winners at Horsens in a Danish Superliga clash.

Oghenekaro Etebo was one of the star performers as Aris defeated Atromitos in the Greek Super League 1.

In the Portuguese Primeira Liga, Bruno Onyemaechi assisted one of the goals as Boavista humbled Paços Ferreira 3-1 in front of their home fans.

Zaidu Sanusi came off the bench in the second half to witness Porto’s surprise 1-2 home loss to Gil Vicente.

Supersub Olanrewaju Kayode netted a 90th-minute equaliser to help Ümraniyespor force a 1 – 1 draw against Henry Onyekuru’s Adana Demirspor in Turkey.

Nigerian midfielder Obinna Nwobodo scored the winning goal for Cincinnati in their 2 – 1 win over Houston Dynamo on the opening weekend of the Major League Soccer.

Asia

Odion Ighalo hit the target four times as Al Hilal thrashed Al Duhail 7-0 in the semifinals of the AFC Champions League.

Ighalo scored his side’s first and last two goals to help set up a date in the final against Japan’s Urawa Reds in April.
