Everton picked up a big result against Arsenal last time out, but they failed to replicate that display against Liverpool
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi played all 90 minutes for Everton, but his efforts were not enough to save his side from losing 2-0 against Liverpool.
After defeating Arsenal 1-0 last time out, Everton were looking to take that form to off-colour Super Eagles midfielder Iwobi kept his spot in the starting lineup.
Liverpool started on top, but Everton held their own and tried to match up with what their neoghours brought to the table.
Iwobi almost got an assist after his corner kick was headed by James Tarkowski, but it hit the crossbar. Unfortunately for the Toffees, Liverpool embarked on a swift counter and it ended up with a goal for Mohamed Salah, who tucked the ball into an empty net in the 36th minute.
Everton started the second half decently, but they were pegged back just four minutes into the half. And it was Cody Gakpo, who scored his first goal for Liverpool to give the Reds a cushion.
Iwobi ended the second half well, he gave a few shimmies and dummies, and almost provided Everton with a way back into the tie, but Tom Davies failed to use his cross well.
The former Arsenal man registered two key passes, two crosses, and five successful dribbles.
It ended 2-0 in favour of Liverpool, and the result leaves the Toffees dangling by a thread in 18th place in the relegation waters.
