Super Eagles striker pens deal with Red Star Belgrade

The Super Eagles star has been a shining light at Slavia Prague, but he has opted for a new league

Super Eagles striker Peter Olayinka has signed a deal with Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade ahead of a transfer in July.

Olayinka left Gent for Slavia Prague in 2018, and he has been great since he joined. The 27-year-old Nigeria international has scored 43 goals and registered 23 assists in 169 appearances.

He has helped the club to three league triumphs and two domestic cup titles since he joined.

Olayinka’s contract at the club is supposed to expire at the end of the season, but he refused to sign a contract extension.

Earlier on, Soccernet reported that some Turkish clubs were interested in Olayinka’s services, one of which was Fenerbahce.

However, Red Star Belgrade have swooped in for him. The club announced via its social media handle that they have acquired Olayinka’s services for the next four years.

But he would have to wait till July when his contract expires at Slavia Prague before he teams up with his new club.

“Crvena Zvezda is happy to announce the news that forward Peter Olayinka has signed a preliminary contract with our club and that he will join us on July 1, 2023, as a free agent,” a statement on the club wrote.

“He signed a contract until the summer of 2026, with the option of a one-year extension.

Red Star Belgrade are the most successful club in Serbia, they have twelve league titles.
