The Super Eagles striker is one of the best Nigerian strikers in Europe, but his life could easily have taken a different path
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has revealed that he could have become a singer if he wasn’t a professional footballer.
Dessers was born in Leuven Belgium, but he spent a good chunk of his career in Netherlands. Always with a calm disposition, the 28-year-old striker is a fox in front of goal.
The former Genk man hit his peak last season when he became the highest goalscorer in the first season of the Europa Conference League.
His performance later earned him a move to Italian Serie A side Cremonese last summer.
However, Dessers admits that he probably would not have been playing football now if he had followed his mum’s wishes. Still, he admits that he admires American singer Bruno Mars.
“I would love to be like Bruno Mars,” Dessers told Nieuwsblad.
“My mom always hoped that I would become a singer or a dancer. Unfortunately for her, I became a professional football player”
So far, Dessers’ career choice has yielded fruits. He has played for the Super Eagles, and he has played in the finals of the Conference League.
Still, much has to be done. Cremonese are swimming in relegation waters, and Dessers has not done much to assist them. He has only found the net twice in 13 Serie A games.
He would look to up his game and start banging in the goals to help his side stay afloat.
