“He’d do for Everton” – Ex-Liverpool midfielder urges struggling Super Eagles star to consider switching to Merseyside

The Nigeria international’s natural goalscoring ability is not in doubt but he has had very little playing time to flourish with the Foxes

Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy has revealed his admiration for Super Eagles and Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho.

Astonished by how Iheanacho has been pushed down the pecking order at Leicester, Murphy has urged the Nigerian striker to consider leaving the King Power Stadium during the winter transfer window.

Seventy-four career goals and 41 assists in 260 games in all competitions since arriving in England in 2014 suggest that Iheanacho knows his way in and around the opposition’s danger area.

When given quality time on the pitch, Iheanacho has shown time and again that he carries enough attacking threats even at the highest level of English football. 

What more evidence can buttress that point for Iheanacho more than a 62-goal contribution (38 goals, 24 assists) in 181 Premier League games and 15 goals in 21 FA Cup matches?

Still, the former Manchester City star is below Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka on manager Brendan Rodgers’ striker’s pecking order at Leicester.

Iheanacho has started only one EPL game for the Foxes this term with another 12 appearances coming from the bench. Little wonder that the 26-year-old has managed only one goal and an assist for the Foxes.

And it does not look like things will change much in Iheanacho’s favour in the second half of the campaign.

Former England international Danny Murphy is convinced, though, that Iheanacho could get more playing time and rediscover his best form at Everton if he were to quit the King Power Stadium.

“I think he’s got to play more,” Murphy told talkSPORT, as per HITC.

“I like Iheanacho. Iheanacho gets goals. I know he’s a bit unorthodox in the way he plays but he gets goals.

“He’d do for Everton, Iheanacho. You leave him up there, get the ball to him and he’ll get you goals.”

Leicester paid Manchester City £25 million to sign Iheanacho from Man City back in 2017.

The striker’s contract, meanwhile, will explore in the summer of 2024 and the Foxes could look to cash in on the Nigerian this winter to secure a meaningful return on their investment.
