Real reason Ademola Lookman missed Atalanta’s friendly win over Nice revealed

The Nigeria international has been the biggest attacking influence for the Goddess since he joined them in the summer

Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman was not in action as Atalanta crushed French side Nice 3-0 at the Allianz Riviera on Friday.

Ademola Lookman was on target as Atalanta and Eintracht Frankfurt battled to a 2-2 draw at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo last week, in the Italian club’s first friendly match of the World Cup break.

And the Nigeria international, Atalanta’s top goalscorer in Serie A this term with seven goals, was expected to yet again be involved against Nice.

Lookman’s name was, however, conspicuously missing in the matchday squad to face Nice.

But his absence was little felt as goals from Rasmus Hojlund, Duvan Zapata, and Jeremie Boga gave Gian Piero Gasperini’s men a convincing win over the Ligue 1 side.

The reason for Lookman’s absence has been revealed, though.

According to SOSFanta, the former Leicester City man was in line to feature in the encounter but he withdrew after suffering a fever.

The medical condition is believed to be mild, however, and Lookman is expected to recover in the next few days and rejoin the Atalanta first team.

Lookman could return for Atalanta when they play their next friendly match against Real Betis at the Estadio Benito Villamarín in Sevilla on Friday, December 23.
