Napoli begin negotiations for Super Eagles newest defensive talent

The Neapolitans are in the market for a backup right-back and could complete a move for the latest addition to the Super Eagles family in January

Fenerbahce defender Bright Osayi-Samuel could be on his way to Naples to join Napoli during the winter transfer window if the latest reports in the Turkish media are anything to go by.

Napoli have been one of the most exciting teams to watch in Europe this season after their blistering start in the Italian Serie A and the UEFA Champions League.

The Neapolitans are the runner-away leaders in Italy and they also qualified for the knockout rounds of Europe’s premier club competition as group winners ahead of Liverpool, and Ajax.

But manager Luciano Spalletti is constantly looking to make the team better and stronger and top on the agenda for the next transfer window is a backup right-back for the dependable Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

Prominent among Napoli’s targets, though, is Nigerian fullback Bright Osayi-Samuel.

And Turkish news outlet Haberport claims that Napoli have begun negotiations with Fenerbahce for the former Queens Park Rangers star.

While a return to England (preferably the Premier League) is the number one desire of Osayi-Samuel, it is believed that the 24-year-old is open to a switch to Serie A.

Osayi has a contract with Fenerbahce until the summer of 2025 but he has made it clear to the club that he would be willing to move in January if an acceptable offer arrives.

The converted winger made his Super Eagles debut in November during Nigeria’s friendly against Portugal. And playing in one of Europe’s five big leagues is crucial to enjoying a consistent run with the three-time African champions.
