The Nigerian striker had a shaky start to his career, but he has gone past that now and he is ready to reach higher heights
Super Eagles striker has iterated his desire to reach higher heights and disappoint his doubters.
Osimhen emerged as the best player at the 2015 Under-17 World Cup after he powered Nigeria to the title with ten goals. He then signed for German side VFL Wolfsburg in 2017.
However, Osimhen was unable to make his mark in Germany after two seasons, he left for Belgian side Royal Charleroi, and that was where his success story began.
Osimhen scored 19 goals in 34 appearances in his first season, and within a year, he left for French side Lille.
The Nigerian hitman also shone in Lille netting 18 goals in 36 games. And after a season, he sealed a record €75million move to Napoli in 2020.
Osimhen struggled in his first season, but he hit his stride last season. This season, Osimhen has continued in the same vein, scoring ten goals in 14 appearances for the Partenopeans.
Reflecting on his career the 23-year-old expressed his delight with how he has developed.
“Now I’m at the top of my shape, I have new goals,” Osimhen told Oma Akatugba as per TuttoNapoli.
“To get where I am, I overcame a lot of obstacles. People say I won’t last, but they also said when I was rejected by two teams in Belgium.
“You’ll never make it,” they told me and compared me to players from the past. In football it’s normal. But I’ve never thought about them.”
“I’m playing for one of the biggest European clubs and in one of the best leagues in Europe, being named ‘Young Player of the Year and achieving many personal goals.
“It wasn’t easy if you consider the injury I risked my life with. Yet I came back better than before. For this, I say thank you to God. I won against those who didn’t believe in me.”
Osimhen is having the time of his life this season, scoring goals aplenty at Napoli. The Partenopeans sit pretty on top of Serie A, eight points above second-place side AC Milan.
He would look to help sput Napoli to their first Scudetto in over 30 years.
