Big blow for Super Eagles star as Napoli opt for Sampdoria ace

The Neapolitans are the clear leaders in the Italian league and are the dream Serie A club for many players abroad

Super Eagles star Bright Osayi-Samuel will not be joining Italian club Napoli any time soon after the Serie A leaders decided against signing the Fenerbahce star.

Napoli have been in the market for a right-back alternative to fullback Giovanni Di Lorenzo with a move in January considered a priority in the corridor of power at the Diego Maradona Stadium in Naples.

Following his exceptional performances for Fenerbahce in Turkey, Osayi-Samuel was reportedly among the options on Napoli’s transfer list.

Keen for a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues, Osayi-Samuel had reportedly informed Fenerbahce of his desire to consider any offer for his services in the winter.

That offer would, however, not be coming from Napoli with the Neapolitans already decided on who to sign as their defensive cover.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, via Tutto Napoli, Napoli have agreed to a deal with Sampdoria for Polish fullback Bartosz Bereszyński.

Bereszyński, 30, will join Luciano Spalletti’s side initially on a six-month loan deal before inking a permanent contract next summer.

Osayi-Samuel’s hopes of playing for one of Europe’s biggest clubs remain alive, though, as recent reports suggest that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are interested in the 24-year-old.

The former QPR star is, however, contracted to Fenerbahce until June 2025.
