“Argentines treat me well” – Former Nigeria U-20 player revels in Messi’s World Cup win

The victory of the Albiceleste lit up the South American country and sent everyone celebrating a famous World Cup victory against France

Former Nigeria U-20 player Felix Orode was filled with joy when Argentina defeated France to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Lionel Messi-led side defeated Kylian Mbappe’s France 4-2 via penalties after extra time ended 3-3.

Orode, who moved to Argentina to play for San Lorenzo under Diego Simeone in 2009, has lived in the country for almost 15 years. He was part of the biggest celebration of football that engulfed the country last week when they won their third World Cup title.

“I am very happy that Argentina won the World Cup. And I am very happy for Messi, it has been a long time Messi wanted to win the World Cup. I am so happy,” Orode told Soccernet.ng.

“Being a champion of the world is not easy, but honestly, for Argentina I am very, very happy because it shows that Argentina is one of the best in the world.”

Orode is married and has settled down in Argentina where he has two children with his wife, Yasmine.

“Having played in this country for almost my entire career, I am Argentinian. They treat me well, my daughter, my son, my wife, my mother-in-law are from Argentina.”

“My mom too is happy. My family in Nigeria sent me messages, they are happy.”

“The way people treat me in this country is just like I am one of them. I am happy to be a part of this victory of Argentina.”

Orode played for the Nigeria U-20 national team under coach Godwin Uwua in 2006 before moving to Spain and then finding his way to Argentina where he has since made his home.

He played for Diego Simeone’s side before the manager took up the role at Atletico Madrid.
