Super Eagles hopeful ruled out of action for at least nine months

The Nigerian striker has a good campaign with Mjallby last season, but he will end the year on a low

Super Eagles hopeful Silas Nwankwo has been ruled out of action for at least nine months after he sustained a cruciate ligament injury.

Silas switched from NPFL side Nasarawa United to Swedish Allsvenskan side Mjallby in February this year.

The 18-year-old striker has been brilliant in his debut season in Europe. Nwankwo scored eight goals and registered one assist in 28 appearances to help Mjallby to a 9th-place finish in the Allsvenskan.

Unfortunately, for the former Nasarawa United hitman, he faces a very long time on the sidelines.

Mjallby have announced that Nwankwo has suffered a cruciate ligament injury, and will be out of action for between nine-twelve months.

This development ensures that the former NPFL Golden boot winner could be unavailable for Mjallby for the entirety of next season.

The Swedish Allsvenskan calendar runs from February and November, and the earliest that Nwankwo can return is September 2023.

The 18-year-old striker’s contract ends in December 2025, and he could be in a precarious situation by the time he fully recovers.
