The Nigeria international was the hero on Sunday night as the Goddesses maintained their unbeaten start to the league campaign
Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has expressed his delight at scoring his first Serie A goal inside Atalanta’s traditional home, the Gewiss Stadium.
Lookman applied the final finish just before the hour-mark after good work from Colombian forward Muriel to power Atalanta to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Fiorentina.
The goal was Lookman’s second in the Italian Serie A since he joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in the summer. Lookman’s first goal for the club was on his debut in the 2-0 win away to Sampdoria in August.
And the Nigeria international is delighted to be able to give joy to the fans of the Goddess despite the difficulties encountered against Fiorentina.
“It was a good victory, a great performance, and we believed in it until the end,” Lookman said after the clash.
“I’m happy for my first goal in front of our fans; I’ve been waiting for it for a long time.
“I just want to see how far we can go from match to match; I don’t set my goal; I want to get as far as possible with Atalanta.”
With two goals and an assist in eight league games, Lookman has positively contributed to Atalanta’s brilliant start to the season.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s men are one of only two teams without a league loss – the other being Napoli.
Six wins and two draws leave the Goddesses with 20 points and second only to Napoli on goal difference.
