Nigerian players abroad: Moses helps Nantes end poor run; Dessers is on a roll at Cremonese

The Yellow Canaries have been a shadow of themselves in recent weeks, but Moses helped lead them to the promised land

Super Eagles forward Moses Simon helped his Nantes side end their seven-game winless streak as he scored in their 4-1 victory over Brest.

The Yellow Canaries were looking to churn out a good display when they welcomed Ligue 1 strugglers Brest to Stade de la Beaujoire. Winless in their previous seven, Nantes coach Kombouare needed a win to get their season back on track.

Super Eagles forward Moses Simon was given the nod to start from the left.

Nantes were fiery from the start, and they got the reward early. The Yellow Canaries were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute after Brest defender handled the ball in the box. Unfortunately for Nantes, Ludovic missed the spot kick.

Brest then took the initiative in the  18th minute, as Fadiga redeemed himself with a well-taken shot that nestled in the bottom right corner.

Nantes soon rallied back, and it was Nigerian forward Moses Simon who scored from the spot to make it 1-1. Just a minute later, Ignatius Ganago capitalized on a defensive mistake from Brest and scored to make it 2-1 for Nantes.

Brest pushed hard for an equalizer in the second half, but Nantes proved to be too good. Mostafa Mohamed and Moussa Sissoko scored in the 71st and 88th minutes to ensure Nantes ran out with the 4-1 win.

Moses was taken off in the 84th minute for Sebastien Corchia. The Nigerian forward had 44 touches, 92 percent pass accuracy, and one successful dribble.

The win takes Nantes to 14th in Ligue 1, two points above relegation.

Meanwhile, in Italy, Dessers scored his second consecutive goal for Cremonese to help them secure a 2-2 draw at Spezia.

Cremonese were demolished 4-1 by Napoli last week, but they fancied their chances against Spezia who entered the game on the back of consecutive losses.

The Grigiorossi started well, and they took the lead after just two minutes through Dessers, who finished calmly after a lay off from Luka Lochosvili.

However, Spezia pulled one back in the 17th minute through M’Bala Nzola. The little Eagles then got in front through Emil Holm.

Cremonese then restored parity in the 52nd minute through Charles Pickel. Dessers could have gotten his second of the game a few minutes later, but his header just drifted wide.

It ended a 2-2 at the Stadio Alberto Picco. The result lifts Cremonese from the bottom of the league to 19th.
