The Partenopeans had a difficult day at Cremona, but they did enough to triumph
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers scored his first Serie A goal for Cremonese, but his effort was not enough, as his side fell to a 4-1 defeat against Napoli.
Osimhen was not included in the Napoli squad that traveled to Cremona, but with Giovanni Simeone and Giacomo Raspadori, coach Luciano Spalletti had enough quality to get a result.
Cremonese coach Alvini gave Dessers the nod to start but left David Okereke on the bench.
The Grigiorossi put up a strong front in the early embers of the game, but their backline was breached midway into the first half.
Matteo Bianchetti conceded a penalty in the 24th minute after a rough tackle in the box. Napoli forward Matteo Politano was on hand to convert from the spot and give his side the lead.
Cremonese probed the Napoli defense searching for an equalizer, but the Partenopeans held out till halftime.
The Grigiorossi went into the second half in fiery style, and they got their reward for their work. And it was Dessers who came through with the equalizer. The Nigerian latched on to a loose ball in the box and sent a powerful shot past Meret in the Napoli goal.
After conceding, the Partenopeans piled attack upon attack on Cremonese, but Alvini’s men held on strong.
However, they succumbed to the pressure, and it was in a cataclysmic fashion.
Simeone scored for Napoli in the 76th minute to make it 2-1. Then Hirving Lozano and Mathias Olivera scored in stoppage time to cement a 4-1 victory for the Serie A leaders.
