Can Any African Team Win the World Cup?

The FIFA World Cup is an international football tournament that takes place every four years. The tournament is contested by the senior men’s national teams of the member associations of FIFA, the sport’s global governing body. The most recent World Cup was held in 2018 in Russia and won by France.

With the 2022 World Cup set to take place in Qatar, there is much speculation as to whether an African team can finally win the tournament. There have been many close calls over the years, with Ghana reaching the quarter-finals in 2010 and Senegal making the same achievement in 2002. However, no African team has yet managed to make it to the final.

Bwin Predictions and Odds: is There a Chance of an African Winner?

In order to answer this question, we used Bwin’s analysis, which is one of the best betting sites in Zambia and offers attractive odds and a great user experience platform. We found that the current favorites to win the World Cup are Brazil (5.50), followed by England (6.00), France (6.50), Spain (7.00), and Argentina (8.00). Based on these results, it is clear that an African team is not among the favorites to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

However, this does not mean that it is impossible for an African team to win the tournament. In fact, anything can happen in football and there have been many underdog stories over the years. For example, Greece won the European Championship in 2004 against all the odds.

Now Let’s Focus on the Top 5 African Teams in the Tournament

Senegal

The Teranga Lions are one of the most talented African teams and they proved it by qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The team is coached by Aliou Cisse, who was captain when Senegal reached the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup. In addition to Cisse, the team has a number of other experienced players such as Sadio Mane, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Idrissa Gueye. With Mane on your side, everything is possible.

The team has been drawn into Group A along with the Netherlands, Ecuador, and Qatar. This is a tough group, but if Senegal can reach the knockout stage, they will be a force to reckon with.

Odds to win the World Cup: 40/1

Ghana

The Black Stars are one of the most successful African teams in history and they have reached the World Cup on five occasions. The team is coached by Otto Addo, who has a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach. Addo has assembled a young and talented squad, which includes players such as Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, and Andre Ayew.

Ghana has been drawn into Group H along with Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay. This is a difficult group, but Ghana has the quality to reach the knockout stage and even finish in first place.

Odds to win the World Cup: 50/1

Morocco

The Atlas Lions are one of the most talented African teams and they have a rich history in the World Cup. The team is coached by Walid Regragui, who has a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach. Regragui has assembled a young and talented squad, which includes players such as Hakim Ziyech “The Wizard” (Ajax), Achraf Hakimi (PSG), and Youssef En-Nesyri (FC Sevilla).

Morocco has been drawn into Group F along with Croatia, Belgium, and Canada. This is a difficult group, but Morocco has the quality to reach the knockout stage and overcome Canada and even Croatia and Belgium.

Odds to win the World Cup: 70/1

Cameroon

The Indomitable Lions are one of the most successful African teams of all time and they have a rich history in the World Cup. The team is coached by Rigobert Song, who is a legend in Cameroonian football. Song has assembled a young and talented squad, which includes players such as Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford), Christopher Wooh (Stade Rennais F.C), and Jean Onana (Lens).

Cameroon has been drawn into Group G along with Brazil, Switzerland, and Serbia – an extremely hard group and the chances of Cameroon reaching the knockout stage are very slim.

Odds to win the World Cup: 100/1

Tunisia

The Eagles of Carthage are one of the most talented African teams and they have a rich history in the World Cup. The team is coached by the 50-year-old Jalel Kadri, who was appointed recently. Kadri will have Sayfallah Ltaief (Basel), Anis Ben Slimane (Brøndby), and Dylan Bronn (Salernitana) at his disposal.

Tunisia was drawn into Group D along with France, Denmark, and Australia. Therefore, their chances of racing the knockout stage or fantasizing about an imaginary World Cup win are almost non-existent.

Odds to win the World Cup: 120/1

As you can see, Senegal and Ghana are the two African teams with the best chance of success in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, neither team is among the favorites to win the tournament. But on the other hand, no one thought Senegal can beat France in 2002 or that Ghana can reach the quarter-finals in 2010. So, anything is possible in football and we should not write off the African teams just yet.
