The Super Eagles star just made the move to San Sebastian this week, and he is already feeling at home
Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar scored on his debut for Real Sociedad to help them secure a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid.
Real Sociedad welcomed rivals Atletico Madrid at the Reale Arena, in a game that would see the winner topple the loser on the Laliga table.
Real Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil started Nigerian striker Umar on the bench, and it was not a surprise, because he just finalized his move to the club on Thursday.
Atletico started the game on top, and they took the lead in the 5th minute through Alvaro Morata, who fired home from close range to make it 1-0.
Sociedad got into the game and settled better. They bossed the possession, pushing the Colchoneros back.
However, they were unable to pull one back before the break.
Coach Alguacil made some changes during the break, taking out Alexander Sorloth for Umar. His decision later paid off in the 55th minute, as Umar jumped highest to meet a cross from Mohamed-Ali Cho and headed home from close range, beating Jan Oblak in the Atletico goal.
Umar thought he had put Real Sociedad in front in the 77th minute, but his strike was ruled out because of an offside in the build-up.
Both sides went at it, but they canceled out each other. And at the end of 90 minutes, they had to settle for the 1-1 draw.
