The Greyhounds are without a win this season, conceding at least once in each of their three league games played so far
If reports in the Italian media are anything to go by, then Nigerian defender William Troost-Ekong’s time in England may end soon.
Per Gianluca Di Marzio, Serie A side Bologna F.C. 1909 are interested in signing Troost-Ekong from Watford.
The I Rossoblù have been active in the transfer window, welcoming defenders Jhon Lucumí from KRC Genk, Arthur Theate from KV Oostende, and Joaquín Sosa from Nacional this summer.
Still, Bologna want more defensive reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut on Wednesday night.
It is not surprising, as Siniša Mihajlović’s team has not shown much solidity at the back this term.
Bologna have failed to keep a clean sheet in three Serie A games and have only garnered one point from the 1-1 draw at home to Verona. The Greyhounds lost 2-1 away to Lazio and 2-0 at AC Milan at the weekend.
Troost-Ekong, though, could be a fine addition to help block the leaks in the Bologna defence.
The Super Eagles defender has a contract with Watford until 2025. But he is currently out of favour at Vicarage Road, having made just one appearance in the Championship for the Hornets.
The 62-cap Nigeria international would likely jump at the chance to return to the Italian Serie A, where he once performed creditably for Udinese.
Troost-Ekong, 28, featured for the Little Zebras between 2018 and 2021, making 66 appearances.
