Napoli’s Victor Osimhen confesses immediate desire for native Yoruba dish ‘Amala’

The Nigeria international is in faraway Italy, where he is making waves for Napoli

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has voiced out his frustration at not getting his heartfill of amala, a local indigenous delicacy native to the Yoruba ethnic group of South Western Nigeria.

Though of the Igbo stock from Eastern Nigeria, Osimhen was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital and the South West’s ‘centre of excellence’.

It is, therefore, no surprise that the Super Eagles striker is familiar with and is a big fan of amala.

Amala can be made from yam flour, cassava flour, or plantain flour and is usually taken alongside a wide variety of soups, including gbegiri and ewedu, with a generous dishing of assorted meat, fish, and stew.

On Thursday afternoon (August 25th), Osimhen could not hide his hunger for amala as he took to his Twitter account to express his desire for the food.

Shortly after, one of Osimhen’s followers on the social media site responded to the striker’s post with an image of amala, which drew an exclamation and a fire emoji from Osimhen.

Away from food and vibes, Osimhen is enjoying the best possible start to a season.

The 23-year-old has scored against Verona and Monza to lead Napoli to impressive wins in their first two Serie A matches.

It is the first time in his professional career that the Nigeria international will hit the target in the first two games of a league season.

Before joining Napoli, Osimhen played for Wolfsburg, Sporting Charleroi, and Lille.
