Napoli eye Super Eagles striker to replace Victor Osimhen amidst Manchester United links

The Neapolitans have shown their astuteness in the transfer window, and the sale of Osimhen is likely not to catch them by surprise

Italian Serie A side Napoli have set their sights on Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu as a possible replacement for Victor Osimhen in case the former Lille lad leaves Naples this summer.

Osimhen’s departure from the Diego Maradona Stadium is not close, but Napoli are ready to bring in an alternative for the 23-year-old as quickly as possible.

According to Zazoom, one of the many options Napoli have identified and included on their shopping list is KRC Genk star Paul Onuachu.

What are the latest Victor Osimhen transfer rumours?

Per recent reports from England, Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is seeking an exit from Manchester United, with Napoli a possible destination.

A swap deal with the Neapolitans for Osimhen is being mooted, with Man United likely to pay a significant sum of the Nigerian’s release clause of €120 million.

But that deal may be difficult to complete this summer.

Victor Osimhen, who already has two goals in two league games, is reportedly not interested in leaving Napoli just yet.

And the Super Eagles striker’s representative Roberto Calenda has taken to social media to pour cold water on the rumoured links to Manchester United.

Writing on Twitter, the Italian agent said (translated), “No negotiations in progress, no exchanges. Victor Osimhen is a Napoli player and wants to play the Champions League with his Napoli after winning it on the pitch with pride together with the coach and teammates.”

Is Onuachu to Napoli in the pipeline?

Napoli have, however, shown that they are well-prepared to cope with losing any important player.

The exit of Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens has been followed by the arrival of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Giovanni Simeone.

Osimhen’s departure could pave the way for Onuachu to complete a high-profile move to Naples.

Club Brugge are the leading candidate for Onuachu, but Genk are unwilling to sanction the sale of a key player to a direct rival.

Getting the 20 million euros needed to sign the 28-year-old may not be difficult for Napoli in the event of Osimhen’s multi-million euro transfer.
