The biggest football competition on the planet was supposed to begin on the 20th of November, but FIFA has decided to go back on its plans
The 2022 FIFA World Cup which was originally scheduled for the 21st of November in Qatar has been rescheduled by FIFA. The competition will now begin a day earlier, on the 20th of November.
Qatar would be the first nation from the Middle East to host the World Cup. This year’s competition is a deviation from the standard schedule for a world Cup.
This year’s football showpiece was scheduled to begin on the 21st of November- an anomalous schedule other than the normal mid-June schedule.
Also, unlike past World Cups, hosts Qatar would take the back seat on the first day of the competition, as the opening fixture was supposed to be Senegal Vs Netherlands.
However, FIFA have now reneged on its plans, and returned to the usual schedule, as Qatar’s opening fixture against Ecuador which was supposed to take place on the 22nd has now been shifted to the 20th.
Asides the first two days, everything remains the same.
Qatar play Ecuador in first game on Sunday November 20 at the Al Bayt Stadium.
England will now play Iran on the second day, November 21st.
All other fixtures will go as planned. The World Cup final will be played on the 18th of November.
