Feyenoord, Cremonese, and Copenhagen are all in the race for the Nigeria international, with his time in Belgium almost done
Racing Genk technical director Dimitri De Condé has voiced his displeasure at the latest transfer move pulled by Super Eagles forward Cyriel Dessers in Denmark.
Dessers is looking for a way out of KRC Genk, following his conviction that he would not play second fiddle to compatriot and club’s leading striker Paul Onuachu.
The former Heracles Almelo forward has strong links to Feyenoord, a club he powered to the final of the Europa Conference League with tournament-high ten goals.
But Serie A newbies Cremonese have jumped to the top of the queue for Dessers after submitting a bid to Genk. The Italians had their initial offer rejected, but reports claim a new bid may already be on Genk’s table.
However, Dessers and his agent Stijn Francis were spotted in Denmark a couple of days ago, chatting over lunch with FC Copenhagen officials.
The development has angered KRC Genk, with technical director De Condé insisting Copenhagen were wrong to speak with a Genk player without first getting permission from the Belgian side.
“Cyriel’s broker Stijn Francis had reported that there was interest from FC Copenhagen, but the (Danish) club has not informed us at all,” Dimitri De Condé told Het Belang Van Limburg, as per Sport Nieuws.
“We don’t think this is the right course of action.”
Dessers remains a Genk player, though, and will likely lead the Limburgers’ attack when they host Standard Liege on matchday two of the Jupiler Pro League season on Sunday.
The Nigeria international scored one of Racing’s goals in their 3-2 defeat to Club Brugge last weekend.
