The Dutch giants have been linked with a move for one of Nigeria’s most exciting youngsters in the European circuit
Many Glasgow Rangers supporters are convinced that Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey is one of the best youngsters to play in the Scottish Premiership.
And some expect the Super Eagles star to command a record transfer fee should he leave the Ibrox Stadium this month.
Rangers face a difficult challenge keeping their best stars after a successful campaign culminating in the Light Blues making it to the Europa League final.
Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo has already completed a 10 million pound switch (including add-ons) to Southampton.
A similar move abroad could be on the cards for Bassey, with Wolves, Crystal Palace, and Brentford among the clubs interested in the 22-year-old.
But a new transfer buzz was recently generated after Eredivisie giants Ajax Amsterdam joined the race for the former Leicester City product.
Rangers are believed to be willing to do business with any suitor ready to begin negotiations for a fee above £20 million.
That would be three million pounds short of the deal that took Kieran Tierney to Arsenal two years ago, which is still the Scottish league’s highest transfer fee.
A section of the Rangers fan base wants the Gers to keep Bassey for at least one more season. Should the Nigerian fullback depart for greener pastures, fans want Rangers to receive more than any club ever had in Scotland.
“Has to be a Scottish transfer record fee 100% boys played a European final, got all the potential to go a long way, and not injury prone very rare these days,” one Rangers fan wrote on Twitter.

Bassey kicked off the race for his signature after nailing the first-team shirt at Rangers earlier this year.
The versatile youngster was named the man of the match in the Europa League and the Scottish Cup finals.
