The Super Eagles striker has refused to put pen to paper on a new deal, and his employers have started looking at other options
Turkish Super Lig champions Trabzonspor are looking to swoop in for Aston Villa forward Trezeguet as a replacement for Nigerian striker Anthony Nwakaeme.
Nwakaeme was one of the best players for the Bordeaux-blues last season, scoring 13 goals and assisting ten en route Trabzonspor’s historic league triumph.
However, the 33-year-old’s contract is set to expire by the end of June, and talks between him and Trabzonspor have failed to yield results with the Turkish champions unwilling to agree with Nwakaeme’s wage demands.
According to CNN Turkey, Trabzonspor are preparing for life without Nwakaeme, and they are looking to sign Egypt and Aston Villa forward Trezeguet.
Trezeguet spent half of last season on loan at rivals Istanbul Basaksehir, and he made quite an impression, scoring six and assisting four in 13 league games.
According to the report, the Bordeaux blues have agreed on personal terms with Trezeguet, but they are yet to agree with Trezeguet’s employers Aston Villa.
Trabzonspor would have to churn out €10 million for the 27-year-old, but it could be a good deal considering his performance last season.
For Nwakaeme, it seems like his Trabzonspor story will come to an end this season. Nonetheless, leaving Trabzon this summer for money seems justified considering his age and the fact that he is already in the twilight of his career.
