Nigeria’s former Liverpool ace tipped as a potential Manchester United signing

The Red Devils are preparing for a mass exodus of attacking players this summer, leaving behind gaps that could be filled by one of the most prolific Super Eagles stars in Europe

Union Berlin forward Taiwo Awoniyi has been identified as one of the quality strikers that Manchester United could look to bring to the Old Trafford this summer.

United are poised to lose several attackers in the next few weeks, with Edison Cavani, Jesse Lingard, and Juan Mata leaving on a free transfer.

Anthony Martial and Rashford are also linked with moves away from Manchester as new manager Erik Ten Haag is set to start his rebuilding process with new personnel.

The Red Devils are believed to be targeting Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, but the Portuguese/Colombian striker’s £68m transfer fee could be a stumbling block.

But at a relatively cheap £21m, Awoniyi could be an ideal signing for Manchester United, says the Manchester Evening News.

Awoniyi left Liverpool permanently for Union Berlin last summer without playing a single official game for the Reds, and has made an immediate impact in the Bundesliga.

The Super Eagles striker netted 15 Bundesliga goals on the road to becoming Union’s highest goalscorer in the German top flight.

The 24-year-old helped the Iron Ones qualify for Europe but could stage a return to England this summer with West Ham, Southampton, and Newcastle reportedly interested in his services.
