Former Super Eagles coach linked to vacant Vice President role at French side Bordeaux

Les Girondins are looking for a new direction and purpose, and they could turn to a club loyalist who is presently without a job

Former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has been linked to the vacant role of Vice President of French side Girondins Bordeaux.

Historically, Bordeaux are one of the traditional French clubs, but Les Girondins suffered a fall from grace last summer after finishing bottom of Ligue 1 and dumped into the Ligue 2.

In search of a new direction and instant return to Ligue 1, Bordeaux are keen to appoint a Vice President who will oversee the day-to-day activities and running of the 140-year-old club.

According to France 3 Nouvelle Aquitaine (via Girondins4ever), Rohr is one of the candidates Bordeaux are considering for the exalted office, second only to club owner Gérard López.

Rohr has been without a job since the Nigeria Football Federation dismissed him as head coach of the Super Eagles in December.

But the Franco-German manager remains a favourite in Bordeaux, having spent 12 years as an FCGB player before managing the club across three different spells in the 1990s.

Rohr has, however, moved quickly to deny the rumours, revealing that nobody has approached him from Girondins Bordeaux to take up any role.

On Wednesday night, during the program After Foot, French journalist Vincent Romain claimed he had a chat with Gernot Rohr.

Rohr reportedly dispelled the rumours, insisting that he does not have the profile to become the Vice President of any club.

Romain said: “Gernot Rohr, I spoke to him on the phone this afternoon; he told me that it’s fake news. It was a partner who called him to propose the idea to him.

“But he has never had any contact with the management of the Girondins. He does not have the profile of vice president at all.”

Rohr recently applied to be the coach of the Malian national team, but he failed to land the job.
