“Quadruple turned to stainless cups”- fans react to Real Madrid’s thrilling Champions League triumph over Liverpool

Spanish giants Real Madrid claimed their 14th UEFA Champions League title after a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Liverpool at the Stade de France.

Liverpool’s dreams of securing a quadruple ended last week after losing the Premier League trophy to Manchester City. However, a victory in France against Los Blancos would have taken away last week’s disappointment.

Both teams looked threatening in attack, but the Reds looked more threatening, hitting five shots on target in the first half.

Madrid kept their shape and showed maturity and grit. Experienced Champions League finalists, Carlo Ancelotti’s lieutenant stuck to the game plan.

They got rewarded just before the hour mark, as star boy Vinicius Jnr. got on the end of a cross-cum-shot and tucked home behind Alisson to give Los Blancos the lead.

The Spanish giants held on despite the flurry of attacks from Liverpool, and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois earned his wages with his commanding presence in between the sticks.

Nigerian fans took to social media to share their reactions to the result. It was more of banter on Liverpool, as despite seeing more of the ball, they failed to penetrate Real Madrid.
