“He can play in the Premier League” – Kenny Miller convinced Super Eagles star is ready for the big time

A one-time SPL golden boot winner is convinced that another Nigerian star is headed for the most glamorous leagues in the world this summer

Former Rangers hero Kenny Miller has called on the Gers to be ready for massive bids from major Premier League clubs for their newest prized asset, Calvin Bassey.

Bassey is the rave of the moment in Scotland after a string of exceptionally outstanding performances for Rangers on the domestic and continental scenes.

The youngster provided key assists and brilliant displays to power the Light Blues to the Europa League final, where he enjoyed an excellent evening despite his team losing to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Four days later, the Super Eagles defender was again impressive, winning the man-of-the-match award, as Rangers defeated Hearts to lift the Scottish Cup.

These were but a far-fetched dream for Bassey when he left Leicester City in 2020 without playing a single game for the Foxes’ senior team.

While he played his part as a Steven Gerrard-led side powered to the league title last year, Bassey has further grown in leaps under Dutch manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

And 2011 Scottish Premier League top goalscorer Kenny Miller believes Bassey’s time in Scotland is likely to be over this summer.

And the former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker has urged Rangers to hold out for a considerable transfer fee because the youngster is worth every penny.

“For me, Bassey is now a £20million player. That’s what clubs are going to have to pay for him,” Kenny Miller wrote in his column in the Daily Record.

“He can play in the English Premier League, there’s no doubt about that now. No one would disagree after watching his recent performances.

“So can Rangers keep him? If they can’t, they need to make sure they get top dollar. Whether that’s £15m, £20m or £25m, they need to hold out for it –because he’s worth it.

“His career is on such an upward trajectory at the moment that clubs will come calling.”

Kenny Miller is not the only one singing the praises of Bassey, as fans, international teammates, and pundits alike have been describing the versatile defender in glowing terms.

Bassey is the only Nigerian to make this season’s Europa League’s best eleven.
