Draws for the 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations (AWCON) were held today

Super Falcons of Nigeria were drawn against the Bayana Bayana of South Africa for the 2022 AWCON in Morocco.

Others in group C where the Super Falcons are drawn are Burundi and Botswana.

The 12-team tournament has hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso, Senegal and Uganda in group A.

Group B has former finalists and one of the best-ranked African female teams, Cameroon, Zambia, Tunisia, and Togo.

The top two teams of each group will automatically qualify for the quarterfinal of the competition while the final two slots will be taken by the teams with the best third-placed positions.

The best finalists at the end of the tournament will qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year.

Nigeria recently faced the Olympic champions Canada in double friendly games, losing 2-0 in one and holding the Canadians to a 2-2 draw in the second.

South Africa, who will prove to be the 9-time African champions’ strongest opposition in the group faced the Netherlands in a friendly and lost 5-1.

They had however proven in the past that they can defeat Nigeria after trouncing the Super Falcons 4-2 at the Aisha Buhari Cup.
