The Nigerian star was involved in Napoli’s first goal, but the day turned sour after Empoli scored three goals in seven minutes to claim a shock victory
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen had to be restrained by his teammate Juan Jesus as he wanted to confront jeering fans after Napoli’s 3-2 defeat at Empoli.
Dries Mertens put Napoli ahead in the first half after he received a great pass from Osimhen. Napoli then doubled their lead in the second half through Lorenzo Insigne in the 53rd minute.
However, three quickfire goals in seven minutes ensured that Empoli ran out 3-2 victors.
According to Gazzetta, the fans were not pleased with the loss, and they jeered at the team after the game, leaving Osimhen in a miffed state. The former Lille man wanted to confront the fans, but Jesus stopped him.
The loss to Empoli leaves Napoli’s Scudetto dreams in jeopardy, as they sit third, seven points behind leaders AC Milan.
The Partenopeans are in danger of finishing fourth, as they are just four points above Juventus, who have a game in hand.
