Nigeria-eligible youngsters in contention for Arsenal vs Man Utd game

Arsenal will host Manchester United in midday kick off on Saturday and may be calling on some of their youngsters as part of the squad

The Gunners will host Man Utd, still basking in their 4-2 away victory against Chelsea.

Arsenal had suffered three straight losses before the game but bounced back solidly to defeat third-placed Blues.

Miguel Azeez, Arsenal’s 19-year-old Nigeria-eligible midfielder was on the bench for the entire duration of the game. Azeez was born in the UK to a Nigerian father and a Spanish mother and is eligible to play for three countries.

The midfielder is not the first Arsenal youngster of Nigerian descent to be named in a matchday squad by Arsenal this season, as Mazeed Ogungbo, a U-23s player has been a part of the squad in the past.

With injuries depleting Ralf Rangnick’s midfield options ahead of their trip to the Emirates, Shola Shoretire has been invited to train with the senior team and was seen on Thursday with the first team at Carrington.

Shola Shoretire

Shoretire, 18, was born in the UK to a Nigerian father and a British mother and has also been listed in some Premier League games this season.

Paul Pogba, Fred and McTominay are all suffering from various degrees of problems and if they are not available for the game, Shoretire may find himself in the squad and probably get minutes under his belt.

Arsenal are currently fifth on the log, tied on the same points as their North London rivals, Tottenham and three points above Manchester United occupying sixth position.
