Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu scored a hat-trick as Genk walloped KAS Eupen 5-0 in the Belgian Jupiler League.
Genk, seeking a place in the Belgian league playoffs, had to snap out of their three-game winless streak to keep their hopes alive. And at home to Eupen, who sit 15th in the Jupiler League, they had a good chance.
Genk came alive very early in the game, and it took them just ten minutes to take the lead, as Onuachu calmly dispatched the resultant penalty after Eupen committed a foul in the box.
After scoring, the Smurfs kept up with the pressure, and just before halftime, they were awarded a penalty. Onuachu was on hand to fire home from the spot to give his side a two-goal cushion.
Genk was not finished yet, as Junya Ito and Bryan Heynen scored two more goals within 25 minutes into the second half.
Onuachu then put the final nail in the coffin for Eupen as he scored his third of the tie to secure the 5-0 victory for the Smurfs.
The victory takes Genk above St. Truiden to eighth position, three points behind Charleroi, who lost earlier.
