Chelsea fans have unveiled a John Obi Mikel banner at the Matthew Harding Stand in Stamford Bridge, the club’s home ground.
Mikel is considered an unsung hero by many Chelsea fans and was dubbed underrated by most football fans.
He spent eleven trophy-laden years at Stamford Bridge winning every competition but the Club World Cup.
Mikel, 34, joined Chelsea in 2006 as a teenager and soon became a regular player under Jose Mourinho.
He was deemed an important player of the team for most other coaches as he played under a myriad of managers and was played by all except Antonio Conte.
“Very pleased to feature a couple of photos of the latest banner to adorn the Matthew Harding Stand.
”Supplied by my good pal Dash, it’s a tribute to Mikel, a player who, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated in the modern era of football,”
The banner has “Taking The Mikel” written boldly on it and is in recognition of the former Super Eagles captain.
A section of Chelsea fans had displayed the “Taking the Mikel” banner when they protested against the European Super League proposal last year.
