Carl Ikeme trains with Wolves for the first time in nearly 5 years

After a 12-month battle against Leukaemia in 2018, Carl Ikeme’s 18-year career at Wolves came to an abrupt end

It was an emotional return for former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ikeme as he participated in his first training session for Wolves in nearly five years.

Ikeme went on a tour of the beautiful and pristine Compton Park training ground of the team and met old friends and faces in the team.

He was taken round the training ground by Wolves goalkeeper, John Ruddy and met with the coaching staff of the team and other officials of the club.

In the video released on Wolves YouTube page, Ikeme was seen exchanging deep hugs with Wolves captain, Connor Coady. He also met Ivorian defender Willy Bolly before going on to the pitch.

Ikeme showed impressive reflexes in training and looked sharp like he never left as he was put through the paces by the goalkeeping coaches of the team.

The 35-year old goalkeeper who spent all his career as a Wolves player was in goal when the Super Eagles defeated Zambia in Ndola enroute the 2018 World Cup and is seen as the best goalkeeper the Super Eagles has had since Vincent Enyeama.

He had 10 caps with the Super Eagles and made his debut on the 5th of September, 2015 in a goalless draw away to Tanzania.

  • This is great news for Super Eagles. Carl Ikeme is a reliable goalkeeper that really proved himself before his sickness. Thank God for his life.

    • He won't play again though. I have a season ticket at Wolves and would love for him too but I highly doubt that he will.

    • Thank you, Lord. This is one of the best news I have heard in a very long time. Welcome back Carl and please come claim the Super Eagles goalkeeping jersey that rightly belongs to you. You have the experience and reflexes to still man the post for Nigeria and Wolves.

  • A very ungrateful nation - Nigeria. Left him at his hour of need and never looked for him after his diagnosis. To treat a national hero this way! So so sad.

    • @Boy Aso, do you know what you're spewing for facks or just ranting ignorantly due to hate or frustration.
Be informed that NFF paid part of his medical bills visited him regularly when he was sick.

      • I have always says this we need a culture in nigrrian youth that make statements with verified statistics.

  • Everyone should know by now that Nigeria as a country is fucked and useless, they don't care or value about human health and life , all they value more is to steal money and protect their cows. Welcome goal keeper Ikeme. Thank God for your life and health.

  • Great to hear this news Carl Ikeme we love you unfortunately I could not reach you while you were sick, God thank you for this faithful Nigeria Carl Ikeme. I may not know NFF contribution towards payment of your hospital bill and visits but Nigerians should have update about his health am happy so are other Nigerian's. We thank God.

  • Good to hear this! Also hopeful that you can come back to the field again sometime soon
